Several nominees in the soundtrack categories are of interest to theatre fans:

Nominees in the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media category include "American Gangster," "August Rush," "Juno," "Mamma Mia!" and "Sweeney Todd — The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

The Best Score Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media nominees include "The Dark Knight" (James Newton Howard & Hans Zimmer, composers), "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (John Williams, composer), "Iron Man" (Ramin Djawadi, composer), "There Will Be Blood" (Jonny Greenwood, composer) and "Wall-E" (Thomas Newman, composer).

And, those nominated for Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media are "Down to Earth" (from "Wall-E" by Peter Gabriel & Thomas Newman, songwriters; sung by Peter Gabriel), "Ever Ever After" (from "Enchanted" by Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz, songwriters; sung by Carrie Underwood), "Say" (from "The Bucket List" by John Mayer, songwriter; sung by John Mayer), "That's How You Know" (from "Enchanted" by Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz, songwriters; sung by Amy Adams) and "Walk Hard" (from "Walk Hard — The Dewey Cox Story" by Judd Apatow, Marshall Crenshaw, Jake Kasdan & John C. Reilly, songwriters; sung by John C. Reilly).

Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, best known for her portrayal of Effie in the "Dreamgirls" film, picked up several nominations, including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Spotlight"; Best R&B Album for "Jennifer Hudson"; and Best R&B Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals for "I'm His Only Woman"; the latter features a duet with Hudson and "American Idol" winner and The Color Purple star Fantasia. "Spotlight" was also nominated for Best R&B Song for its writers, Mikkel S. Eriksen, Tor Erik Hermansen and Shaffer Smith.

The recording of "Weill: Rise And Fall Of The City Of Mahagonny," which features multiply Tony winners Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald, also picked up nominations for Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording.

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards will be held Feb. 8, 2009, at Staples Center in Los Angeles. CBS will broadcast the event live from 8-11:30 PM ET.
