Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, best known for her portrayal of Effie in the "Dreamgirls" film, picked up several nominations, including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Spotlight"; Best R&B Album for "Jennifer Hudson"; and Best R&B Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals for "I'm His Only Woman"; the latter features a duet with Hudson and "American Idol" winner and The Color Purple star Fantasia. "Spotlight" was also nominated for Best R&B Song for its writers, Mikkel S. Eriksen, Tor Erik Hermansen and Shaffer Smith.
The recording of "Weill: Rise And Fall Of The City Of Mahagonny," which features multiply Tony winners Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald, also picked up nominations for Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording.
The 51st Annual Grammy Awards will be held Feb. 8, 2009, at Staples Center in Los Angeles. CBS will broadcast the event live from 8-11:30 PM ET.
