Broadway News Hadestown Opens on Broadway April 17 Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney lead the cast of the folk opera, based on the legend of Orpheus.

Hadestown, a modern reimagining of the legend of Orpheus and his quest to Hades to rescue his beloved Eurydice, officially opens on Broadway April 17 at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

Anaïs Mitchell's underworld-set folk opera, which premiered Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop in 2016, returns to New York following its London premiere at the National Theatre last fall. The musical also celebrated a 2017 engagement at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Canada. It began Broadway previews March 22.

Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin directs the production, set to open April 17. Mitchell authored the book, music, and lyrics for Hadestown, making the show the first Broadway musical to feature a book, music, and lyrics by a sole female writer since Elizabeth Swados’ 1978 Runaways.

The cast is led by Tony Award nominee Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon) as Eurydice and Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) as Orpheus. The are joined by André De Shields (The Full Monty) as Hermes, Patrick Page (Saint Joan) as Hades, and Amber Gray (The Great Comet) as Persephone.

The principal cast reprise their performances from the recent London premiere—several have been attached to the production since its 2016 debut at NYTW.

The cast is completed by Jewelle Blackman, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, and Kay Trinidad as the Fates, with Afra Hines, Timothy Hughes, John Krause, Kimberly Marable, and Ahmad Simmons in the chorus of Workers. Malcolm Armwood, T. Oliver Reid, Jessie Shelton, and Khalia Wilcoxon serve as swings.

Rush and digital lottery tickets are priced $42.50. Rush tickets are available for day-of performances when the Walter Kerr Theatre box office opens each day. Digital lottery entries are accepted daily via LuckySeat.com.

The production features choreography by David Neumann, musical direction by Liam Robinson, orchestrations by Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose, sets by Rachel Hauck, costumes by Michael Krass, lighting design by Bradley King, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz. Casting is by Stewart/Whitley.

Hadestown is produced by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy.
