The musical, which is currently playing the Berkshire Music Hall in Pittsfield, MA, was originally scheduled to conclude its run Aug. 17. The rock musical will now play an additional six performances, ending Aug. 21. Directed by Bill Castellino, Hair features Dana Steer as Claude, Ryan Link as Berger, Denise Summerford as Sheila, Lori Eve Marinacci as Chrissy, J. D. Goldblatt as Hud, Kelly Lynn Wilson as Jeanie and Jimmi Kilduff as Woof. The Hair Tribe members comprise Negozi Anyanwu, Patrick Carlyle, Inuka Nyota Griggs, Bettina Tyler-Lewis, Charlie Mechling, Lisa Vidas Consolacion, Maurice Emmanuel Parent and Leonard E. Sullivan.

The creative team for the musical includes Brian Prather (set design), D. Benjamin Courtney (lighting design), Guy Lee Bailey (costume design) and Dennis J. Arcano (music director). The latter will lead a four-piece rock band.

Hair focuses on a group of hippies — called The Tribe — in New York City in the late 1960's, and gives voice to their passions and frustrations in loose scenes and interactions, including a rant against war, an embrace of free love (including a group nude scene) and odes to nature, life, drugs and multiculturalism. Book and lyrics are by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, music is by Galt MacDermot. Tom O'Horgan was the original director. Heather MacRae, Melba Moore, Keith Carradine and Joe Morton were among performers in the early Broadway run of the show, at the Biltmore Theatre.

Hair will play Wednesday-Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets, priced $30-$40, are available by calling (413) 528-8888. The Barrington Stage Company is located in Sheffield, MA. Visit www.barringtonstageco.org for more information.
