Beginning May 22, the weekly Friday morning concerts will take place at Rumsey Playfied in Central Park. Green Day, who are currently collaborating with Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening director Michael Mayer to bring their Grammy-winning album "American Idiot" to the stage, will launch the concert series that day. Additional concert highlights include "Dreamgirls" star Jamie Foxx (June 19), the cast of the Tony-nominated revival of Hair (June 26), "Chicago" and "Hairspray" actress Queen Latifah (July 10), and country and Annie Get Your Gun star Reba McEntire (Aug. 21).
Also scheduled to appear on the Summer Concert Series are Lionel Richie (May 29), John Legend (June 5), The Jonas Brothers (June 12), Brad Paisley (July 3), Kelly Clarkson (July 31) and Kenny Chesney (Aug. 14). Additional performers will be announced shortly.
New Yorkers who wish to attend the free concerts are encouraged to arrive at Rumsey Playfield via the 69th Street entrance on Fifth Avenue at 6 AM when the park opens to the public.
