PlayBlog Hair Open Call Draws Hundreds Flocks of prospective hippies lined up outside the Public Theater Jan. 21 to audition for a spot in the tribe of the Broadway production of Hair.

With members of the current cast currently in negotiations to open the London premiere of the Tony-winning revival in April, producers held an open call for replacements in the Broadway company.

The most ambitious began lining up at 1 AM outside the Public and camped out over night to secure the chance to audition, according to representatives for Hair. The line, which looped the block twice, was cut off at 963 people at 8:30 AM.

Hopefuls from California, Massachusetts and Puerto Rico were among those hoping to get the chance to let the sun shine in on Broadway.
