In a statement Oskar Eustis, artistic director of The Public Theater said, "The audience response to Hair in New York has been tremendous; we've been thrilled with how the show reaches across barriers and speaks to all audiences. In the great tradition of the Public Theater, we're taking it on the road and bringing Hair to the people."
Directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Karole Armitage, Hair features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. The musical, according to press notes, concerns "a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era."
