Hair Turns Billboard Into Merchandise

For many theatre fans, taking a piece of the show home with you means buying a t-shirt, cast album, mug or show-logo magnet. Well, those clever hippies at Hair have raised the bar.

The Tony Award-winning revival has repurposed its giant Times Square billboard into a series of one-of-a-kind tote bags. Rather than dumping the large piece of vinyl into a landfill, 260 totes were created, which are currently on sale at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Hair is now in its second year on Broadway. A London production of the musical, featuring members of the Broadway revival cast, opened to acclaim in April and a North American national tour will launch in September.

Here's a look at the cool bags.
