The film version of Hairspray has launched its official website.

The site is located at www.hairspraymovie.com. After the site loads, Queen Latifah, who plays Motormouth Maybelle, can be heard singing "You Can't Stop the Beat," the closing song in the musical.

The site also includes a blog at www.hairspraymovie.com/blog/.

"Hairspray" is based on the musical Hairspray, currently running at the Neil Simon Theatre, which is in turn based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name.

Adam Shankman directs the new "Hairspray" film, which stars Latifah, John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad, Amanda Bynes as Penny Pingleton, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Brittany Snow as Amber von Tussel, Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma von Tussel, James Marsden as Corny Collins, Elijah Kelly as Seaweed, Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton and Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.

Leslie Dixon wrote the screenplay and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote the score and songs for "Hairspray," which will hit movie theatres in summer 2007. The musical won 2003 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score (Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman), Best Book (Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell), Best Actress in a Musical (Marissa Jaret Winokur), Best Actor (Harvey Fierstein), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Dick Latessa), Best Costume Design (William Ivey Long) and Best Direction of a Musical (Jack O'Brien).
