News Hairspray Heads Home to Seattle's 5th Avenue for September Run Broadway's big musical Hairspray return to its beginnings as the national touring company stops at Seattle's 5th Avenue for a Sept. 7-26 run.

The work, still playing at Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre, made its world premiere at Washington stage in June 2002 before its Tony Award success on The Great White Way.

Comedian John Pinette stars in the role of Edna Turnblad. The cast also include Keala Settle as Tracy Turnblad, Chandra Lee Schwartz as Penny, Austin Miller as Link Larkin, Stephen DeRosa as Wilbur Turnblad, Alan Mingo, Jr. as Seaweed, Worth Williams as Amber Von Tussle, Susan Cella as Velma Von Tussle, Troy Britton Johnson as Corny Collins, Charlotte Crossley as Motormouth Maybelle, Joanna Glushak as the Female Authority Figure, Kenny Morris as the Male Authority Figure and Shannon Antalan as Inez.

The musical Hairspray is based on the John Waters film with the same name. Waters served as a creative consultant on the musical comedy which features an original score by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman with a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Jack O’Brien directed and Jerry Mitchell choreographed.

The design team for Hairspray is by David Rockwell (scenic), William Ivey Long (costume), Kenneth Posner (lighting) and Steve C. Kennedy (sound ). The tour is produced by Margo Lion, Adam Epstein, The Baruch-Viertel-Routh-Frankel Group, James D. Stern/Douglas L. Meyer, Rick Steiner/Frederic H. Mayerson, SEL & GFO, New Line Cinema, in association with Clear Channel Entertainment, A. Gordon/E. McAllister, D. Harris/M. Swinsky, J.&B. Osher.
