News Hairspray to Bow in London in Fall 2005 The 2003 Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray will make its London stage debut in October 2005.

Variety reports that the hit musical will play London's Cambridge Theatre with a mostly British cast. Barry and Fran Weissler and Clear Channel will be the producers of the West End mounting.

Jack O'Brien and Jerry Mitchell, who were, respectively, the director and choreographer of the Broadway production, will handle the same chores in London.

Hairspray, based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name, currently plays the Neil Simon Theatre. The show won 2003 Tony Awards for Best Score (Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman), Best Book (Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell), Best Actress in a Musical (Marissa Jaret Winokur), Best Actor (Harvey Fierstein), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Dick Latessa), Best Costume Design (William Ivey Long), Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.
