News Hal Linden to Play Evolution Theorist in Bay Street's Darwin in Malibu The Bay Street Theatre's production of Darwin in Malibu has its Darwin. Hal Linden will play the author of "The Origin of Species" in the Crispin Whittell comedy, set to run Aug. 15-Sept. 3 at the Long Island theatre.

Hal Linden won a Tony Award for his work in The Rothschilds. Other Broadway credits for the "Barney Miller" star include Bells Are Ringing, The Sisters Rosensweig, The Gathering, Ilya Darling and Cabaret. Linden will star opposite "My Girl" star Anna Chlumsky who will play the character of Sarah.

The play finds Darwin, the founder of the theory of evolution, alive and lounging around in a deck chair in Malibu. Soon, two contemporaries arrive and the debate over the origins of man begins anew.

Daniel Gerroll, a Bay Street regular as both actor and director, will direct.
