When A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City officially opens September 13 at the Geffen Playhouse, it will be the first time playwright Halley Feiffer has appeared in her own work.

Performances began September 5 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where the play will run through October 8.

The show premiered Off-Broadway in 2016 at MCC Theater starring Beth Behrs (Two Broke Girls). For this West Coast premiere, Feiffer stars as Karla, a woman who unexpectedly connects (and disconnects and connects again) with her mother’s hospital roommate’s son, Don.

Directed by Trip Cullman, the show features Jason Butler Harner as Don, Eileen T’Kaye as Geena, and JoBeth Williams as Marcie.

Cullman and Feiffer previously collaborated on Moscow, Moscow, Moscow, Moscow, Moscow, Moscow at Williamstown, the MCC Theater production of A Funny Thing..., I’m Gonna Pray for You So Hard at Atlantic Theater Company, and Substance of Fire at Second Stage.
