The Hamilton original Broadway cast recording picked up yet another accolade May 21: a Billboard Music Award for Top Soundtrack/Cast Album.

The 2015 recording was up against the soundtracks to Moana (which, like Hamilton, featured songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda), Purple Rain, Suicide Squad, and Trolls. This is the first time the award has gone to a Broadway cast album. Previous winners include the soundtracks to Pitch Perfect 2, Frozen, High School Musical, Titanic, and The Bodyguard. In 2015, the soundtrack for the film adaptation of Into the Woods received a nomination.

In March, the album reached Triple Platinum status. The Hamilton Mixtape, a de facto retroactive concept album featuring myriad music stars, premiered in the top spot of the Billboard 200 in December 2016.
