News Handspring Puppet Company's A Midsummer Night's Dream with Bristol Old Vic to Transfer to London's Barbican Theatre Handspring Puppet Company, winners of a special Tony Award in 2011 for their work on the Broadway transfer of the National Theatre's production of War Horse, are to bring their co-production of A Midsummer Night's Dream with the Bristol Old Vic to London's Barbican Theatre. It will begin performances Feb. 6, 2014, prior to an official opening Feb. 10.

The South African based company previously presented Woyzeck on the Highveld at the Barbican in 2011. This collaboration reunites them with War Horse co-director Tom Morris, who is artistic director at the Bristol Old Vic where this production premiered in March under his direction.

The production will play an 11 performance run through Feb. 15.

According to press materials, "a shape-shifting Puck is conjured from a selection of workman’s tools. An eight-foot-tall Titania presides over a troupe of malevolent fairies while a giant, controlling Oberon manipulates his fairy queen and meddles in the confusion of the squabbling lovers. A Midsummer Night’s Dream takes place in a world where reality blurs with the mystic, where fairies are powerful, magical, mischievous and potentially dangerous. This world is realised in a riotous display of irreverent comedy, in which anything can come to life and be transformed."

The cast includes Saikat Ahamed, Colin Michael Carmichael, Naomi Cranston, Alex Felto, Fionn Gill, Akiya Henry, Christopher Keegan, Kyle Lima, Saskia Portway, David Ricardo-Pearce, Lucy Tuck and Miltos Yerolemou.

The production features puppetry by Handspring Puppet Company and is designed by Vicki Mortimer. Lighting is by Philip Gladwell, music by Dave Price, sound by Christopher Shutt, choreography by Laurel Swift and movement direction by Andrew Dawson.
