High School Musical, based on the Disney TV film of the same name, centers on the unlikely friendship that evolves between the jock Troy and brainiac Gabriella at a karaoke contest. Little did the two know that she would be transferring to his school. The duo decide — against their friends' wishes and to the dismay of school stars (a drama queen and her twin brother) — to audition for the high school musical.
The creative team also includes choreographer Liza Gennaro, musical director Edward G. Robinson, scenic designer Steve Gilliam, sound designer Jason Krueger and lighting designer David Lander. Joseph Schulte is resident stage manager, Peter Hynds is production stage manager, and Zoë Chapin is assistant stage manager. Paul Blake produces for the Muny.
The 90th season at the outdoor venue will also boast the musical revue 90 Years of Muny Magic. The production, according to the official Muny website, will take audiences "on a musical journey from grand opera and operettas to rock musicals." Performance dates are July 14-20.
