Harry Potter and the Cursed Child playwright Jack Thorne is reportedly working on the script for a Pinocchio live-action remake, according to Deadline. The adaptation of the 1940 Disney classic will be directed by Paddington film director Paul King with plans to begin shooting this fall.
Pinocchio joins a list of recent live-action remakes of beloved Disney classics, including Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book, as well as the upcoming star-studded Lion King with Beyoncé, Donald Glover, Keegan Michael-Key, James Earl Jones, and more.
Thorne is the playwright of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I and II and the book writer for King Kong. He is also the writer of the film Wonder and the TV series National Treasure and The Last Panthers.
The musical stage adaptation of Pinocchio seen at London’s National Theatre, based partly on the film version and the original Carlo Collodi tales, features a book by playwright Dennis Kelly (Matilda) and direction by Harry Potter's John Tiffany.
The West End transfer of Harry Potter will begin previews on Broadway at the Lyric Theatre March 16.
