Oz Scott will direct the "unique blend of music, poetry, dance, comedy, and drama," as show notes describe, for the Connecticut company. Music for the 7:30 PM reading is composed by Daniel Bernard Roumain. "Resurrection is the story of six interconnected black men: a child scientist, a young man from the projects on his way to college, an ex-convict, a corporate executive, a health food store owner, and the Bishop of a mega-church, all of whom experience an unexpected phenomenon on the same evening that changes each of their lives forever," according to a press statement.
Obie Award-winning playwright Daniel Beaty was recently named the Aetna American Voices Playwright-in-Residence at Hartford Stage for the 2007-2008 season. This work, expected to be presented in the fall of 2008, is being workshopped as part of that residency. His Emergence-SEE! played as the centerpiece of the Brand:NEW Fall Festival of New Work Nov. 4, 2007.
