No replacement Edna has been announced.
Fierstein created was most observers term a classic theatre performance in Edna, the oversized shriking violet who is transformed by her dancing daughter Tracy into an oversized blooming rose. So good was he in the part, that many wondered who could possibly fill his shoes. That guessing game was put off again and again as Fierstein repeatedly extended his stay in the musical.
With his departure, few original stars remain in the show. Most recently, Clarke Thorell and Matthew Morrison exited the show (as Corny and Link, respectively) Jan. 11.
