News Have Wicked and Jersey Boys Films Found Directors in Stephen Daldry and Jon Favreau? Academy Award-nominated "Billy Elliot" and "The Hours" director Stephen Daldry is being courted by Universal Pictures to direct the screen adaptation of the Broadway hit Wicked, according to Deadline.com.

Daldry also earned Tony Awards for directing Billy Elliot and An Inspector Calls on stage. Wicked, which continues its record-breaking run at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre, has a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. Producer Marc Platt and Universal were previously reported to have met with JJ Abrams, James Mangold, Ryan Murphy and Rob Marshall as possible directorial matches for Wicked. Daldry's attachment is an interesting choice, as Universal is reportedly considering a film version of the musical of Billy Elliot.

It  has also been reported that "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau is in negotations to direct a screen adaptation of the Four Seasons musical Jersey Boys, another Tony-winning Broadway hit.

John Logan (Red) penned the most recent screenplay for the Jersey Boys film. The original Broadway book is by Tony winners Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice.
