Tony Award winner Heather Headley will make several appearances to promote her debut solo recording, "This Is Who I Am," which was released nationwide Oct. 8 on the RCA label.
Headley, who won a Tony Award for her work in the title role of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, will perform on ABC-TV's "Good Morning America" on Friday, Oct. 11. The morning talk show airs from 7 to 9 AM ET on Channel 7 in the metropolitan area. Headley will also make an appearance on the Oct. 12 broadcast of WPIX-TV's "Soul Train," which airs at 1 PM ET. To celebrate Headley's new CD, RCA Records and WVAZ will also present an evening at Chicago's Black Orchid. Doors open at 8 PM, and the first 200 attendees will be treated to free hors d'oeuvres. Headley is expected to perform about 20 minutes worth of material from her new recording. Heather Headley starred as Nala in the original Broadway company of The Lion King. However, it was her role as Aida in the hit Disney musical that brought Headley national attention and a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Headley also starred in the Toronto mounting of Ragtime and the City Center Encores! production of Do Re Mi. She also took part in the all-star anniversary concert of Dreamgirls, which benefited the Actors' Fund of America and was subsequently released on Nonesuch Records.
