Produced by Shannon Sanders and Drew Ramsey, “In My Mind” is a dual disc. According to Headley’s official website, one side features the audio tracks, which include “In My Mind,” “Wait a Minute,” “Am I Worth It,” “I Didn’t Mean to,” “How Many Ways,” “Back When It Was,” “What’s Not Being Said,” “Losing You,” “Rain,” “Letter,” “Me Time” and “Change.” The second DVD side features the entire album in enhanced stereo, performances by and interviews with Headley and a photo gallery. "In My Mind" is the follow-up disc to Headley's "This Is Who I Am." The latter garnered Headley two Soul Train of Soul Awards as well as Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best R&B Vocalist.

Heather Headley earned a Tony Award for her performance in the title role of Disney's Aida. She has also appeared on Broadway as Nala in The Lion King, in the all-star benefit concert of Dreamgirls and the City Center Encores! production of Do Re Mi.
