News Heather Parcells Leads Chorus Line-Themed Workshop Nov. 18 Heather Parcells, currently playing Judy Turner in the revival of A Chorus Line, will share her experiences and coach young performers in an upcoming master class presented by Broadway Artists Alliance Nov. 18.

Parcells will lead the latest Broadway musical-themed master class for Broadway Artists Alliance, which previously presented a Spring Awakening-tailored session featuring Lea Michele. Following the success of the Spring Awakening master class, Broadway Artists Alliance has scheduled a reprise of that session for Jan. 21, 2008.

Heather Parcells and other members of the Chorus Line company will answer questions during the opening orientation of the master class. After the orientation Parcells will lead participants through a warm-up, dance combination and mock audition.

A song-study session is also slated to take place, with Parcells assisting master-class participants in determining and interpreting their best "16 bar" songs for contemporary theatre auditions.

Associates from Jay Binder Casting, the company responsible for putting A Chorus Line's dancers on the line, will take over for the second part of the afternoon. Young performers will receive one-on-one feedback on performance and selection of their material. There will also be a mock dance-call for the casting directors, where participants will perform the combination Parcells taught earlier in the day.

Parcells, who has worked with Broadway Artists Alliance in the past, states, "I have never seen such talented kids and talented Broadway professionals working together to enhance their careers in a way that is very true to the ways of the real world. Teaching these young dancers is like a dream, they are so eager to learn not only the dances that I teach them, but about what it is like to really live a career in theatre." Previous talents who have lent their time and experience include Sutton Foster, Beth Leavel, Jason Robert Brown, Lea Michele, Lauren Kennedy, John Lloyd Young, John Gallagher Jr., Stephen Schwartz and Lea Salonga.

Upcoming master class themes include Les Miserables (Dec. 15); Legally Blonde (Dec. 16); Mary Poppins (Dec. 28); Wicked (Jan. 19); Spring Awakening (Jan. 21); Little Mermaid (Mar. 24); Hairspray (April 13); Spamalot (May 4); and Young Frankenstein (June 23). The creative participants involved will be announced shortly.

The Broadway Artists Alliance A Chorus Line master class runs from 10 AM-5 PM on Nov. 18 and is open to advanced dancers who sing, ages 12-21.
