The film version of John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's hit Off-Broadway musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, emerged as one of the top winners in this year's Sundance Film Festival. The movie won two prizes, a directing award for Mitchell and an audience award. Hedwig has a long run at Off-Broadway's Jane Street Theatre. The show, which took the form of a concert of the titular fictional band, told the tale of Hedwig, a tortured German-American transsexual and perennial victim of love. Mitchell originated the lead role, and sang all the score's rock-oriented songs.
