Kevin Cahoon, who starred in the hit Off-Broadway run of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, will again don the foot high coiffures of the "internationally ignored" rock star in the Austin, Texas production April 18-May 12 on the Zach Arena Stage. Zach artistic director Dave Steakley directs.

After original star and Hedwig creator John Cameron Mitchell and Broadway's Michael Ceveris, Cahoon played as the incompletely transgendered singer whose journey to America and subsequent mentoring relationship with a teenager turns into a life-altering love before turning sour. Cahoon originated the role of Ed the hyena in Broadway's The Lion King and has since starred in the recent Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show and in Encores!'s Babes in Armsand Hair.

With a successful two year run Off-Broadway,Hedwig spawned a phenomenon — an original cast CD, an award-winning film starring creator Mitchell, recently released on DVD, the international fan club Hedwig in a box and even Hedwig, a "pick-me-up" cologne by Demeter. Stephen Trask's score includes the rock numbers"Tear Me Down," "Wicked Little Town," "Wig in a Box," "Angry Inch," "Origin of Love" and "Sugar Daddy."

Cahoon replaces Andrew Rannells as Hedwig. Susanne Abbott is Hedwig's faithful sidekick and husband, Yitzak.

Tickets are $29-$25. The Zach Arena Stage is located at 1510 Toomey Road. For reservations, call (512) 476-0541 ext. 1. The Zach is on the web at http://www.zachscott.com — By Christine Ehren
