The Long Island Musical Theatre Festival gives aspiring performers the opportunity to work under the guidance of guest artists from the world of Broadway. The two-week program, held annually, engages top name talent to take the participants through the production of a full-scale stage musical under the auspices of artistic director Steven Altinel.
This year, Heidi Blickenstaff worked with a crop of youngsters to bring John Kander and Fred Ebb’s Cabaret to life. The show will be performed on Friday July 29 at 8:00 PM and Saturday July 30 and 2:00 PM at the Walt Whitman Performing Arts Center in Huntington, NY. Past guest artists have included Liz Callaway and Beth Leavel, costume designer Greg Barnes and director Susan H. Schulman.
In this peek at the festival, Heidi Blickenstaff, with the help of a bevy of enthusiastic students, sang “New York, New York” at the Sing Happy: The Songs Of Kander & Ebb cabaret event on July 22.
The not-for-profit festival hopes to soon expand beyond an annual undertaking in order to bring the power of musical theatre to a greater number of young performers.
