Directed by Peterson, the co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre features Henry Woronicz (Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington) as the Poet with Brian Ellingsen as the Musician. Performances continue through Sept. 9.

Here's how La Jolla describes An Iliad: "The Trojan War has never been more enthralling than in this visionary new adaptation of Homer's epic tale. Spinning the familiar saga of gods and goddesses, undying love and endless battles, An Iliad's stalwart storyteller takes audiences on a sweeping journey to the front lines of nearly every major war in history, in this riveting account of humanity's unshakeable attraction to violence, destruction and chaos."

Winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show, An Iliad was originally developed as part of the New York Theatre Workshop Usual Suspects Program. The production opened in March 2012 at NYTW with O'Hare and Stephen Spinella alternating in the lead role.

During the run of An Iliad, La Jolla is offering "audience engagement events," including "Insider Events," a meeting with a playhouse staff member one hour prior to the performance for an insider's discussion (Aug. 25 and Sept. 5); "Talkback Tuesdays," a post-show discussion with the cast and crew (Aug. 25 and Aug. 28); and "Discovery Sunday," featuring special guest speakers exploring themes from the production (Sept. 9).

Other members of the creative team include Rachel Hauck (set design), Marina Draghici (costume design), Scott Zielinski (lighting design) and Mark Bennett (original music and sound design).
