Marc Acito and Amy Engelhardt’s rock musical will debut at the Cell this summer.

The world premiere of Bastard Jones—a new rock musical inspired by Henry Fielding’s 18th century novel, The History of Tom Jones—will begin performances Off-Broadway this summer.

Created by Marc Acito and Amy Engelhardt, Bastard Jones is a musical adventure of deception, bed-hopping, and self-expression. Performances will begin June 14 ahead of a June 22 opening night at the Cell Off-Broadway, where it is scheduled to play through July 14. The show is directed by Acito, who also wrote the book and co-wrote the lyrics. Engelhardt wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics.

Bastard Jones follows Tom Jones, played by Ruggiero, a bastard-born charmer with a heart of gold and a knack for getting into trouble. When he is banned from the only home he knows, an adventure leads him to the army, a romp at a country inn, and in a certain situation with an aristocrat with a taste for boy-toys.

Rounding out the cast with Wang and Ruggiero are Alie B. Gorie, Crystal Lucas-Perry, Rene Ruiz, Cheryl Stern, Tony Perry, Matthew McGloin, and Adam B. Shapiro.

The production will feature choreography by Joe Barros, musical direction by Matthew Liu, lighting by Gertjan Houben, sound design by M. Florian Staab, and costume design by Siena Zoe Allen. The production team also includes costume associate Bethany Mullins, production stage manager Louisa Pough, assistant stage manager Kayla Santos, and production manager Chris Steckel.
