Hershey Felder Brings Irving Berlin Solo Show to La Jolla | Playbill

News Hershey Felder Brings Irving Berlin Solo Show to La Jolla California's La Jolla Playhouse has announced that it will present Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, in which Felder brings to the stage the real-life story of famed American composer Irving Berlin.

Directed by Trevor Hay and written and starring Felder, performances are set to run Dec. 16, 2015-Jan. 3, 2016.

Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin received its world premiere at La Geffen Playhouse last November, receiving critical acclaim. In the solo show, Felder traces the life of Berlin from his Russian roots to New York's Lower East Side. The performance features some of the composer's most popular songs: "Alexander’s Ragtime Band," "Always," "Blue Skies," "There’s No Business Like Show Business" and "Puttin' on the Ritz."

"A powerhouse performer and indelible interpreter of classic composers, Hershey Felder has become a beloved artist in San Diego, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the Playhouse this holiday season," said Playhouse artistic director Christopher Ashley in a press statement.

Felder wrote and starred in George Gershwin Alone, which played the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway in 2001 as well as the West End. His earlier shows include Monsieur Chopin; Beethoven, As I Knew Him; and Maestro Bernstein.

The production includes scenic design by Felder and director Hay; lighting design by Richard Norwood; projection design by Andrew Wilder; sound design and production management by Erik Carstensen; and dramaturgy by Meghan Maiya. Currently only subscription tickets are available by calling (858) 550-1010 or online at LaJollaPlayhouse.org.
