Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel reunite for the ten-year anniversary special, airing Jan. 20 (ten years to the day since the original premiered) at 8 PM ET/PT on the Disney Channel.
Leading man Zac Efron, who played the high school basketball star daring to step outside the role of jock and into the spotlight of the theatre, will take part in the special via a pre-taped message.
The Disney Channel is planning to screen the original "High School Musical" and its sequel, "High School Musical 2," Jan. 21 and 24.
The original was seen during its debut year by more than 100 million people worldwide, and its soundtrack was the first TV-movie soundtrack to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Several of the original cast members went on to real-life stage careers, including Hudgens, who starred in the 2015 Broadway revival of Gigi. A stage adaptation pf "High School Musical" licensed by Music Theatre International has been performed at schools across North America.
