George Wendt, Kristen Chenoweth, Roger Bart and Dan Castellaneta are cheap -- for high school students with a fiver. These stars and others are available through the High Five program, which enables students to purchase tickets to Off-Broadway shows for a mere $5.
Some of the productions available this winter and spring are all three Encores!, The Alchemist, An Empty Plate in the Cafe du Grand Boeuf, Antigone, Edward II, Jane Eyre, Medea, Mr. Baldwin Goes To Heaven, Pojagi, The Seagull, the spring Royal Shakespeare Company productions at Brooklyn Academy of Music, Teahouse of the August Moon, The Torch Bearers and Why We Don't Bomb the Irish.
Not only do High 5's discounts run on the weekend performances, but if high-schoolers want to see a show on a school night, the $5 rate buys two tickets for the teen and a guest.
Other discounts available include ballet, contemporary dance, museums, opera and symphony orchestras.
High 5's free Fall Catalog, published in Spanish and English, can be picked up at participating Ticketmaster outlets, N.Y.'s public libraries, various Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores, and Coliseum Books (Broadway at 57th Street). The Catalog can also be viewed on-line at www.high5tix.org, or call (212) 445 8587.
