Havok artistic director Nick DeGruccio helms the intimate musical that began previews Feb. 24 and will run through April 4 at the Lillian Theatre. The Story of My Life has music and lyrics by Neil Bartram and a book by Brian Hill.
The two-person cast features Robert J. Townsend (Mamma Mia!, Grease, The Seafarer) as author Thomas Weaver and Chad Borden (Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Laramie Project, Burn This) as his childhood friend Alvin Kelby.
The Story of My Life, according to press notes, "tells the story of two childhood friends and how their friendship profoundly defined their lives. Thomas Weaver is a best-selling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby was his best friend for 30 years. But time can test the bonds of friendship, and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has — his stories of Alvin — to learn where things went wrong."
The production has set design by Tom Buderwitz, lighting design by Steven Young and sound design by Drew Dalzell. Michael Paternostro will musical direct.
The Story of My Life began performances on Broadway Feb. 3, 2009, and officially opened Feb. 19 at the Booth Theatre. The 90-minute, intermissionless musical closed Feb. 22 after 18 previews and five regular performances. For tickets phone (818) 505-1875 or visit HavokTheatre. The Lillian Theatre is located at 6322 Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood.
