Gregory Boyd, artistic director of Houston's Alley Theatre, directs the Hartford Stage Company premiere of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic about small-town New Hampshire life.
Donovan Patton and Ginna Carter play young lovers George Gibbs and Emily Webb. Annalee Jefferies plays Mrs. Webb. Editor Webb is being played by Frank Converse, Ross Bickell plays Doc Gibbs, and Mrs. Gibbs is played by Josie de Guzman. Additional cast members include Robert Hannon Davis (Constable Warren), Bill Kux (Howie Newsom), Nafe Katter (Professor Willard and Joe Stoddard), Charlotte Booker (Mrs. Soames) and Noble Shropshire (Simon Stimson).
Ensemble members playing various townspeople are Erin Courtney, Jordan Cyr, Jessi Ehrlich, Justin Fuller, Rick Guliani, Joseph M. Kornfeld, Thomas Libonate, Jacob Lombardi, Michael Angelo Morlani and Rob Pawlikowski.
Holbrook, who portrays the Stage Manager for HSC, returns to familiar territory having played the role in the 1977 television production starring Ned Beatty and Barbara Bel Geddes.
The actor made his Broadway debut in Do You Know the Milky Way? and has since appeared in After the Fall, Marco Millions, Incident at Vichy, Tartuffe, The Glass Menagerie, Man of La Mancha, The Apple Tree, I Never Sang for My Father, Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie? and An American Daughter. He won a 1966 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his solo show Mark Twain Tonight!, which he also reprised on Broadway in 1977 and 2005. Holbrook has appeared in the films "All the President’s Men," "Julia," "Wall Street," "The Firm," "Men of Honor" and "The Majestic." The design team for Our Town includes scenic designer Jeff Cowie, lighting designer Rui Rita and costume designer Alejo Vietti with sound and original music by John Gromada.
Our Town officially opens at Hartford Stage Company on Sept. 7 and will continue through Oct. 6.
