The Houston Symphony will give a Christmas concert on December 8 at Houston's massive Lakewood Church, the orchestra announced.

The event will feature Randol A. Bass's Glad Tidings, a retelling of the Christmas story commissioned by the orchestra in 2003. Joel Osteen, Lakewood Church's senior pastor, will narrate.

Lakewood Church is the largest congregation in the United States, with some 40,000 weekly worshippers. Earlier this year, the church moved into its new home, a former basketball arena that seats 16,000. Osteen's sermons are carried on television stations around the country.

"We are extremely pleased to establish this new reationship with the renowned and highly successful Lakewood Church," orchestra president Ed Wulfe said. "We are very much looking forward to bringing our symphony to their members in what we hope will be the beginning of a long and mutually satisfying association."
