It's time for HYPE in Houston again. HYPE, as in the Houston Young Playwrights Exchange, a playwriting contest for Houston teens who would like to see their works performed by the Alley Theatre.

To submit for the contest, a playwright must be between the ages of 13 and 19. Plays can have no more than six characters in a one-act format (up to thirty minutes with no intermission). Scripts must be typed with numbered pages, and the title page must include the writer's name, address, phone number and date of birth.

Those playwrights picked for the HYPE event will see their work performed and directed by professional theatre artists Aug. 8-12 at the Alley's second theatre, the Neuhaus Arena Stage.

All plays are due by May 15. Submissions can be mailed to HYPE, c/o Travis Mader, Alley Theatre, 615 Texas Avenue, Houston, TX 77002 or e mailed (as a Word for Windows document only) to [email protected].
