Obie Award winner Heidi Schreck stars in the New York premiere of the play that is presented by the Women's Project in association with South Coast Rep. Performances began Off-Broadway Dec. 28 for a run through Jan. 29.

Daniella Topol directs a cast that includes actress-playwright Schreck (Circle Mirror Transformation, The Language Archive, There Are No More Big Secrets), as well as Adam LeFevre (The Boys Next Door, Footloose, Our Country's Good) and newcomer Justin Kruger.

The play is described as "the story of a high school biology teacher (Schreck) who leaves Manhattan for a job in rural Kansas who is unprepared for the firestorm that ensues after she makes an off-handed comment about the origins of the universe, i.e. how the world began."

How the World Began received its world premiere at South Coast Rep in September. It recently played a separate London debut at the Arcola Theatre.

Topol is a New York-based director whose recent credits include Rajiv Joseph's Monster at the Door (Alley Theatre), Anne Ziegler's Photograph 51 (Theatre J) and Willy Holtzman's The Morini Strand (City Theatre). She will also direct the Women's Project Theater production of How the World Began in New York in January.

Trieschmann lives and writes in Kansas, and is author of The Bridegroom of Blowing Rock, crooked, The World of Others, Hot Georgia Sunday and Small and Selfish Creatures. She wrote the screenplay for "Angel's Crest," which premiered at this year's Tribeca Film Festival.

How the World Began plays the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, located at 416 West 42nd Street. For tickets phone (212) 279-4200, or visit ticketcentral.com.
