Helen Mirren's Tony-nominated performance as Queen Elizabeth II in Peter Morgan's Broadway and West End drama The Audience will be broadcast as a special event in selected movie theatres June 25.

The play, which shows Queen Elizabeth interacting with 12 prime ministers throughout her long reign, will be screened as a "National Theatre Live" event. The show is up for three Tony Awards June 7, Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play (Helen Mirren), Best Performances by a Featured Actor in a Play (Richard McCabe) and Best Costume Design for a Play (Bob Crowley).

Directed by Stephen Daldry, The Audience began previews Feb. 14 and officially opened March 8 at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre; performances continue through June 28. It recouped its $3,400,000 production cost in eight weeks.

"For sixty years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace," according to press notes. "Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said, not even to their spouses."
