Tina Howe's Museum, a comic parody of the post-modern art scene, ends it run at the Vector Theatre Co. on Nov. 15. It is the first production of the theatre's inaugural season.

The play is directed by the company's artistic director Peter James Meyers and features several well-known San Francisco actors including Gerald Hiken, Marcia Pizzo, Celia Shuman, and Wilma Bonet.

Museum is set in New York's Museum of Modern Art on the final day of a provocative group exhibition. The cast of 15 portrays 44 different characters as a cross-section of people -- among them passionate art lovers, skeptics, self-appointed critics, persnickety museum guards, and vandals -- respond in turn to the exhibition and to each other.

Museum had its world premiere in 1976 at the Los Angeles Actors Theatre and was revised in 1979 by the New York Shakespeare Festival. The New York Times praised the NYSF production as "a parable of humanity, a comedy of absurdities with a serious message," and Variety pronounced it "an exceptionally good comment on the human condition."

The cast of Museum also includes Andrew Hurteau, Fannie Lee Lowe, Nancy Shelby, Thomas Redding, Susan Papa, Marc Bauman, Carol Shoup-Sanders, Michael Lopez, Anderson Lim, Ross Martineau, and Jonathan Rider.
