Meredith Willson's The Music Man, according to press notes, “hails from the 1950s golden age of musical theatre and follows fast-talking traveling salesman Professor Harold Hill. Hill, despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef, cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the town librarian, and begins to lead with his heart, instead of his mischievous ways.”
