Tony nominee Hunter Foster will direct a staged reading of the new musical Far From the Madding Crowd, according to an Equity casting notice.

Rehearsals are scheduled for November 7-16 with presentations in Manhattan November 17 and 18.

The creative/production team also includes musical director Paul Masse, casting director Robin Carus and accompanist/associate musical director David John Madore. Producer is Jane Ackley Lynch.

Adapted from the Thomas Hardy novel, the musical, according to the casting notice, is described as such: “Set in 1870 rural England (Dorset area), it charts the journey of Bathsheba Everdene, a young woman of 20, struggling to make her own way in a world that dictates women’s roles and behaviors.”

An October 2014 reading of the musical, featuring a score by Gary Schocker and book and lyrics by novelist Barbara Campbell, was headed by Elena Shaddow with Jeremy Hays, J.D. Daw, Samantha Hill and Richard White as well as Liz Donathan, Joseph Dellger, Jonathan Hadley, Kenneth Boys, Hollis Scarborough, Aaron Riesebeck, Jennifer Babiak and Julie Benko.
