Whoopi, the 20th anniversary return of the solo stage show that launched the comedian's career, is set to open Nov. 17 for a run through Jan. 30, 2005. As previously reported by Playbill On-Line, the work will first play a one-week tryout engagement in Philadelphia at the Merriam Theatre from Oct. 13.
The show will re-create the same material seen in the original, in which Goldberg impersonated a series of characters, including a Valley Girl and a pan handler.
Doug Wright's lauded solo drama, as performed by Tony Award-winning actor Jefferson Mays, will culminate its Broadway run Oct. 31, according to Telecharge. The work has already announced engagements across the country at venues in Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco in the coming year.
The Lyceum Theatre is located at 149 West 45th Street.
