News I and You Opens Off-Broadway Tonight The New York premiere of I and You officially opens Jan. 27 following previews that began Jan. 15. Lauren Gunderson's play about two students brought together by a poetry assignment is presented Off-Broadway by 59E59 Theaters.

Directed by Sean Daniels and produced by Merrimack Repertory Theatre in association with Richard Winkler, the engagement is scheduled through Feb. 28.

In the new play, homebound and sick Caroline receives an unexpected visit from her athletic, popular classmate Anthony about an urgent English assignment. "As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together," state press notes. "Featuring an ending that leaves audiences breathless...[the play is] an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness."

Reprising their roles from an earlier run at Merrimack are Kayla Ferguson and Reggie D. White. The design team includes scenic design by Michael Carnahan; lighting design by Brian Lilienthal; costume design by Jennifer Caprio; and sound design by David Remedios.
