The demand for Hamilton tickets got so intense over the last few months that people began to wonder if it wouldn't make sense for the show to simply open a second production.
Instead, that honor goes to another Broadway musical, Chicago.
In addition to the long-running revival at the Ambassador Theatre that will celebrate its 20th anniversary this fall, a production by the Takarazuka Theatre of Japan plays July 20-24 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, 17 blocks north.
Presented as part of the annual Lincoln Center Festival, the production features Takarazuka's signature all-female cast in the Kander & Ebb show about corruption of the courts and media in the Windy City of the 1920s. The production features Saori Mine, Saki Asaji, Asato Shizuki, Yoka Wao, Wataru Kozuki, Hikaru Asami, Natsuki Mizu and Yuga Yamato.
The two productions apparently are on friendly terms; they held a joint press conference July 18.
