The two-actor musical is now placed in Chicago between 1957 and 2007 — "from Riverview and Bozo's Circus, to Hefner's Playboy Empire and a dynasty called Daley…from 1950s Wrigleyville to the Gold Coast of today," according to ATC.

Michael Weber directs Jeff Award winner Stef Tovar and Heidi Kettenring (of the Chicago company of Wicked) in the musical comedy that follows the history of a marriage from vows to retirement. Robert Preston and Mary Martin starred in the original Broadway production, set in the early 20th century.

ATC performances will play Oct. 3-Nov. 11. Opening is Oct. 8.

Musical direction is by Jeff Award winner Doug Peck, whose musicians will be on stage. The musical is based on the Tony Award-winning play, The Fourposter, by Jan de Hartog. According to production notes, "Continuing in the spirit of last year's smash revival of a re-invigorated Oklahoma!, ATC's production brings a new vision to this Broadway musical treasure from director Michael Weber, who obtained special permission from Jones and Schmidt to update the story and set it in Chicago."

Harvey Schmidt (composer) and Tom Jones (book and lyrics) created the musicals The Fantasticks, Celebration, Philemon and 110 in the Shade.

Director Weber's recent credits include Assassins and Beauty and the Beast. He served as artistic director for Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower Place's inaugural season and was nominated for a Jeff Award for his staging of Grand Hotel. He directed the Chicago premiere of Stephen Sondheim's Getting Away with Murder while serving as artistic director of Theatre at the Center.

The I Do! I Do! creative team includes set designer Kevin Depinet, lighting designer Jesse Klug, costume designer Michelle Julezadeh, prop designer John Henningsen and projection designer Mike Tutaj.

I Do! I Do! will be performed at American Theater Company, 1909 W. Byron St. in Chicago.
