Spamalot co-writers Idle and John Du Prez have written the work, inspired by the film "Monty Python's Life of Brian." Not the Messiah will play Caramoor following its previously announced June world premiere at Luminato: Toronto Festival of Arts & Creativity, which commissioned the work along with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
TSO music director Peter Oundjian — Idle's cousin and Caramoor's artistic advisor and principal conductor — will conduct the work in both venues.
The smash hit musical Spamalot is based on the film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," which — like "Life of Brian" — starred and was co-written by Idle and his Python cohorts. Spamalot, which took home the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, is currently performing on Broadway, in London, in Las Vegas and on a national tour.
The 2007 Caramoor International Music Festival — New York's largest outdoor music festival — runs June 23-Aug. 5 with performances of classical, jazz, opera, Latin-American music and bluegrass performed on the Caramoor estate.
The musical will play Caramoor's Venetian Theater July 1 at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Tickets are now on sale for all performances at www.caramoor.org or by calling (914) 232-1252.
