News iLLA! A Hip Hop Musical Returns to NYMF The Award-winning NYMF show returns to the festival this weekend for three concert presentations.

iLLA! A Hip Hop Musical, which won the 2015 Award for Excellence at the New York Musical Festival, returns to NYMF in 2016 for three concert presentations July 29, July 31 and August 2.

iLLA! is a hip hop musical set against the 2008 U.S. financial meltdown, about a classically trained dancer called Prince who dreams of becoming a rap star. The semi-autobiographical musical features book, music, and lyrics by Ronvé O’Daniel, music by Jevares C. Myrick, and direction by J Kyle Manzay.

Prince is played by Glee and Pretty Little Liars’ Titus Makin, Jr. The cast also features Andrew Bancroft, who performs with Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda in the rap group, Freestyle Love Supreme, as Prince’s archrival, Big Trey.

The show played a sold-out run at the Toledo School For The Arts this past February, and last month, was presented in Atlanta at the Cobb County Center For Excellence in Performing Arts.
