Carrie is about a relentlessly bullied high school girl who uses a secret power to get horrible revenge on her tormentors. The new engagement, which marks the first full scale musical to play the Los Angeles theatre in its 84-year history, will begin previews Oct. 1 and officially open Oct. 8.
The immersive staging puts the audience at the centre of the action by transforming the theatre into the story's setting, Ewen High School.
The production reunites the original creative team and includes a revised book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the film), lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose) and music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, "Terms of Endearment"). Brady Schwind returns to direct along with choreographer Lee Martino; full cast will be announced shortly.
"We are overjoyed that our innovative and ground-breaking production of Carrie will continue to thrill audiences in Los Angeles," said Tony-winning producers Bruce Robert Harris and Jack W. Batman. The Transfer Group are also producers.
Carrie features musical direction by Brian P. Kennedy, musical supervision by Adam Wachter, scenic design by Stephen Gifford, costume design by Adriana Lambarri, lighting design by Brian Gale, sound design by Cricket Myers, illusion design by Jim Steinmeyer, aerial design by Paul Rubin, props design by Terry Hanrahan, hair design by Katie McCoy, and casting by Michael Donovan, CSA.
