A spokesperson for the production confirmed to Playbill.com that the new musical will begin previews Sept. 27 with an official opening scheduled for Oct. 20. Brooks — who penned the show's book and score — will also direct the production, which is being produced by TBF Music Corp. No casting has yet been announced. In My Life, according to a recent casting notice, is a "coming of age love story set in New York City. J.T., a singer/songwriter, age 22-26, falls in love with a young woman, age 22-26, who works at the Village Voice." The show has previously been produced twice as an AEA Workshop.
Joe Brooks won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and an ASCAP Award for the song "You Light Up My Life." He has also composed for such films as "Jeremy," "The Lords of Flatbush," "If Ever I See You Again," "Headin' for Broadway" and "Invitation to the Wedding."
The Music Box Theatre is located at 239 West 45th Street. Before In My Life arrives, Antony Sher will play a limited engagement in Primo, July 8-Aug. 7.
