The winners of the 2017 Off Broadway Alliance Awards were announced May 16. The awards honor the best in commercial and not-for-profit Off-Broadway theatre in a variety of categories.
The Vineyard Theatre production of Indecent won for Best New Play; the Paula Vogel work transferred to Broadway earlier this year and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. Ernest Shackleton Loves Me—now running at the Tony Kiser Theatre—was awarded Best New Musical. The show features a book by Joe DiPietro and music by Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda.
Tooting Arts Club's immersive production of Sweeney Todd received this year's award for Best Musical Revival. Tony nominees Norm Lewis and Carolee Carmello currently headline the staging at Barrow Street Theatre.

Recipients will be honored at the seventh annual ceremony on June 20 at Sardi's.
As previously announced, Vogel is among this year's Legend of Off Broadway Honorees, joining Harvey Fierstein, Athol Fugard, Israel Horovitz, Charlotte Moore, and Estelle Parsons. Additionally, James Houghton will be inducted into the Off Broadway Alliance Hall of Fame.
The Off Broadway Alliance is an organization made up of Off-Broadway producers, theatres, general managers, press agents, and marketing professionals.
