The world premiere of Indian Summer by Gregory S. Moss officially opens at Playwright Horizons June 8. The cast features Tony nominee Jonathan Hadary, This Is Our Youth’s Elise Kibler, Joe Tippett (the A.R.T. production of Waitress) and Owen Campbell (The Americans).
Directed by Carolyn Cantor, the new romantic comedy began performances May 13 at Playwrights Horizons’ Mainstage Theater. Indian Summer was commissioned by the Off-Broadway theatre and concludes the company’s 2015-16 season.
Here’s how production notes bill Moss’ play: “Abandoned by his wayward mom, Daniel (Campbell) is consigned to spend summer with granddad (Hadary) in a Rhode Island beach town, where the locals don’t look kindly on city kids. But his hapless vacation turns around when he meets Izzy (Kibler): tough-acting, back-sassing, beguiling and taken. Gregory S. Moss’s feisty romantic comedy follows a passing fling that could last a lifetime – as impossible and charmed as an Indian summer.”
The production features scenic design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Kaye Voyce, lighting design by Eric Southern and sound design by Stowe Nelson. Production stage manager is Kyle Gates.
