Classic Arts News Injury Forces Cast Change for Cincinnati Margaret Garner Tenor John Mac Master, who sang the role of Casey in the world-premiere performances of Richard Danielpour's Margaret Garner in Detroit last month, has dropped out of three July performances at Cincinnati Opera because of an injury.
Mark T. Panuccio, a graduate of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music and a regular performer at Cincinnati Opera, will step in.

According to a press release from Cincinnati Opera, Mac Master has suffered a knee injury.

Margaret Garner is based on the true story of an escaped slave who kills her child rather than see her returned to slavey. The libretto is by novelist Toni Morrison. The world-premiere production, which features mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves in the title role, is a co-production of Michigan Opera Theatre, Cincinnati Opera, and the Opera Company of Philadelphia.

Cincinnati Opera also announced that Edoardo M‹ller would replace Raymond Harvey as the conductor of The Barber of Seville. Harvey has withdrawn because of a family emergency.
